A $200M+ Opening Weekend is Being Predicted for The Rise of Skywalker

Following the news from ticketing site Fandango that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sold more tickets in its first 24 hours than any previous Star Wars movie, including The Force Awakens, the first long-range projection of how the movie will do is out.

Box Office Pro, who is usually pretty good at predicting opening weekends, projects and opening weekend of The Rise of Skywalker between $185 – 225 million. Obviously it’s less than the once-in-a-generation event of The Force Awakens, and at the high end it’s more than The Last Jedi.

Of course, this is just the first long-range projection and things can change over the next two months as the marketing campaign really ramps up and more of the general public becomes aware that the final movie in the Skywalker Saga is opening in theaters.
