Over the last 24 hours, the Internet has been going absolutely insane with the belief that the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker would be released tomorrow, October 14th.
This all began when the official Star Wars Twitter account made a joke imitating the popular @dog_rates account where they rated a new character 14/10. Of course, the Internet took that as a hint as to when the trailer would be coming, even if it was completely unintentional.
Then, John Boyega’s agent posted a fan-created piece of art on their Instagram and claimed the trailer would be out on that date. More recently, Boyega himself put the Internet into a frenzy…simply by posting an official promotional still from the movie.
Today he put it to rest, officially saying he doesn’t know when the trailer is coming out:
Sw fans. I don’t know when the trailer is coming out and i haven’t made any announcements about it so let’s just wait for the studio to release it. 🙌🏾— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) October 13, 2019
As for the still? He just likes posting Star Wars pictures:
Is it unusual for me to post Star Wars stills ? That is the real question.— John Boyega (@JohnBoyega) October 13, 2019
If Boyega doesn’t know, then the chances of his agent knowing the real date are slim as well.
Right now it seems like the 21st really is the date. It’s sixty days from release, which is traditionally the number of days out that theaters can put advanced tickets on sale, and it’s also Carrie Fisher’s birthday. It’s a perfect day to release the trailer, advanced tickets, and the final poster as the marketing campaign really kicks off around the world.
